A second person has been charged with murder in the death of a Coastal Carolina University student last week. The State Law Enforcement Division says 22-year-old Stephon Mclain Jr. was arrested Wednesday in Mansfield, Ohio.
19-year-old Anthony Liddell of Bennettsville was shot three times at a residence complex at the Conway college on February 26 and died several hours later. 20-year-old Marquis McDonald was charged with murder in the case on March 1. Authorities say McDonald has admitted he was present when Liddell was shot but claims someone else fired the gun.
A warrant was issued against Mclain on one count of murder. According to the warrant, McDonald arranged to meet with Liddell at a “predetermined location.” Investigators say they believe Mclain shot Liddell three times.
SLED says Mclain waived extradition to South Carolina and is being held at the Horry County jail.
Coastal Carolina officials say Liddell was a sophomore student from Bennettsville who was majoring in sports medicine.
Law enforcement officials did not say what Mclain, who has a Conway address, was doing in Mansfield. However, the warrant notes that Mclain goes by the nickname “Ohio.”
