In order to both streamline and make the business permitting process easier, DHEC has launched a new online help site for business permits. Governor Nikki Haley says business owners, especially those who are starting small enterprises will find the process of securing a permit easier and less time-consuming.
They can go in, apply for a permit, and they tell them what to do, how to do it, how long it will take, and make it all easier. So they can continue to watch the permit: they can see where it is in the process, they will know ahead of time how long the average time is (of securing a permit).
DHEC Director Catherine Templeton says the new website was constructed after consulting with people around the state who own and run businesses.
“We’ve been meeting with the small businesses, as well as the large businesses and we’ve come up with a plan on the internet on a web page. You can do it in your pajamas at midnight when the plan hits you. You can go in and see exactly who to call, what to get. the questions to ask, and give us the information you already have.”
Otis Rawl, Chairman and CEO of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, says the website will prove invaluable for a person developing a timetable for the startup of their business.
“If you’re looking at a 60-day permit, you can see normally I’m going to get mine if I do everything right in 45 days. So all of a sudden I can begin thinking about when I’m going to open my doors, when I need to hire employees, when I can get started.”
The website is scbos.sc.gov.
