The Ekom Beach Fire Department station on Neely Ferry Road in Laurens County was itself destroyed by flames late Thursday morning.
In addition to the structure, Laurens County fire officials say five fire trucks inside the building were destroyed by the blaze. There’s no word yet on the cause of the fire, but investigators say the believe it started in the corner of the building. No injuries were reported.
Numerous fire departments from the surrounding areas responded to the blaze, which was first reported around noon.
Ekom Beach is an all-volunteer rural fire department of a little under two dozen firefighters. The station was located roughly halfway between the towns of Laurens and Ware Shoals in western Laurens County.
