The mayor of Saluda is dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Newberry County Coroner’s Office.
Coroner Craig Newton said an autopsy performed Monday morning revealed that 58-year-old Frank Addy Jr., died of a single gunshot wound to the head. Newton ruled the death a suicide. Newton said Addy’s body had been found Sunday morning at a Lake Greenwood residence.
Addy was being investigated by the State Law Enforcement Division at the time of his death, according to the Greenwood Index-Journal newspaper.
The Index-Journal reports the investigation dealt with mileage reimbursements that Addy had received from the town for “economic development” trips. The mayor claimed more than 68,760 miles for reimbursement from Saluda’s general fund since 2010 for a total of $37,818.46 in reimbursements since 2010. The paper reported that Addy had only included documentation supporting about 60 miles.
The paper published the report Sunday.
Addy had been mayor of Saluda since 2006.
