The South Carolina Highway Patrol says it is still investigating why a pedestrian was hit by an Amtrak train in Williamsburg County early Thursday morning.
The county Coroner’s Office said 55-year-old Albert Tisdale, of Kingstree, was killed in the collision.
Lance Corporal Sonny Collins said the train’s conductor was interviewed shortly after the incident. “We’re still investigating… why the pedestrian was on the tracks and in what manner were they on the tracks,” he told South Carolina Radio Network. “Were they attempting to cross? Were they laying on the tracks? That’s where the investigation is at this point.”
Collins said investigators are trying to figure out which way Tisdale was heading when he was hit in order to better know what happened.
The accident happened at the Wheeler Street crossing northwest of Kingstree, just outside of the town lines.
