Two of the suspects charged in the fatal mob beating of a 20-year-old man after a Greenville birthday party had been previously charged in an assault last year at a popular downtown Greenville park.
18-year-olds Brittany Irby and Elijah Wilson are among the six people charged with in the beating death of De’Bron Aldrick Harrison. Greenville Police said Harrison attended a girl’s 16th birthday at the West End Community Center on April 20. Investigators said Harrison, who was from Columbia, intervened when another 18-year-old, Ronald Brown, punched two girls in the face. Police said Brown, Irby, Wilson and three juveniles then chased Harrison to a church across the street where they cornered him and severely beat him.
Harrison died on Friday from his injuries.
Police said Irby and Wilson were previously charged for their believed role in a March 2012 assault in Falls Park, according to WYFF-TV in Greenville. Police said the pair were gathered with a large group at the park’s entrance late on March 25 . Investigators say several fights broke out after a shot reportedly went off. Irby and Wilson were charged in connection with one attack that left another person injured.
According to the arrest warrants, Wilson and another teen punched and kicked the victim while Irby egged them on. In that incident, Irby, Wilson and Smith were charged with third-degree assault and battery by mob resulting in bodily injury.
