A Pickens County mother has been charged with killing her two young children in a home near the town of Dacusville.
According to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, Suzanna Brown-Simpson is charged with murder in the deaths of her 7-year-old daughter Carly and 5-year-old son Sawyer. She is also accused of shooting and injuring her husband 34-year-old Michael Simpson. She’s also charged with possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
“You always pray that you never get this call that these cases occur, but today we got that call,” 13th Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins told reporters Tuesday afternoon.
Arrest warrants say Highway Patrol troopers found Suzanne Simpson injured in a wreck near the home around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. According to the warrants, she told responding paramedics, “OK, OK, I shot my whole family.” When police went to the home, they found the two kids dead and Mr. Simpson injured.
Suzanne Simpson remains in a Greenville hospital for her own injuries. According to the warrants, Suzanna Simpson told an emergency room nurse that she shot her family. She also told the nurse that she tried to shoot herself but could not do it.
Pickens County Sheriff Rick Clark said it was too early to go into many more details. He said his office is proceeding very carefully due to the nature of the crimes. “No matter how tough a cop you are, no matter how many people you’ve prosecuted, it doesn’t matter who you are. When kids are involved, it’s a whole different situation.”
Clark said his office was not yet calling the incident a case of domestic violence until investigators learn more.
