A Midlands man will spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted of killing his wife and a business partner.
43-year-old sports bookie Brett Parker testified in his own defense that business partner Bryan Capnerhurst went to Parker’s Irmo home in April last year and shot his wife, Tammy.
Then he said when Capnerhurst took him at gunpoint to a safe, Parker claims he was able to grab another gun and fatally shoot Capnerhurst in self-defense.
But after testimony from investigators, including Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott who said the evidence didn’t match Parker’s story, jurors sided with prosecutors. They said Parker set the whole thing up to escape gambling debt and a troubled marriage. Richland County investigators said Parker shot both his wife and Capnerhurst, then put a gun in the dead man’s hand to frame him.
The judge sentenced Parker to two consecutive life prison terms, one with no parole.
