Anderson County Sheriff’s deputies say they have made two arrests in the shooting of a man who crashed his pickup truck into the fence of the Pelzer Rescue Squad’s building Sunday morning.
According to investigators, Mitchell Ray Carroll was shot at his home on River Street in Pelzer. He then drove his truck to the Pelzer Rescue Squad in an attempt to seek medical attention. EMS workers who responded to the wreck found multiple gunshot wounds and took Carroll to the hospital.
Deputies charged Billy Joe Crane and Jamie Michael Eaton with attempted murder in the shooting. Both were arrested without incident late Sunday evening. Investigators have not said how Crane and Eaton knew Carroll.
Carroll is currently in stable condition at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
This case is still under investigation.
UPDATE (1/10/2014) The charges were dropped against both Crane and Eaton in December 2013, after prosecutors said the victim refused to cooperate with them. Crane was shot by an Anderson County deputy in June after the deputy said Crane tried to hit him with a stolen car.
