A German manufacturer that is already bringing hundreds of jobs to the Upstate announced the addition of 450 more jobs at the grand opening of an expansion in Laurens County Friday.
Governor Nikki Haley was on hand for the event.
“Two years ago, the first groundbreaking we did was this groundbreaking. Yes it was raining, but we knew it was special. We knew that this was bigger than we imagined We knew that the partnership was going to be one that lasted a long time, and we see it all come to life when we look at it today, ” she said during the ceremony.
ZF Transmissions announced an additional $175 million investment and the new jobs at its grand opening in Gray Court. CEO of the company Dr. Stefan Sommer was also at the grand opening. “What you see in this plant is a significant part of our future. It is our strategy. It is our strong belief in the states. Our investments reflect our vision of further great potential,” says Sommer.
The plant will build eight and nine-speed transmissions in partnership with Chrysler Group and Jaguar Land Rover North America.
“What we are seeing produced out of this plant will be the highest quality, most efficient eight and nine-speed transmissions that will have historical impressions on the industry,” says Haley.
The additional jobs bring the ZF Transmissions total number of employees to 1,650 in the long-term, with 1,200 to be hired by the end of 2013.
