Officials have now identified a flagman who died after a pickup crashed into him at a construction zone along a Williamsburg County road Monday.
22-year-old Kenneth Long of Andrews died Monday afternoon at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital, according to Williamsburg County Coroner Harrison McKnight.
Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant said the pickup’s driver Perry Edwards was traveling south on SC Highway 41 at 2:51 p.m. Monday when he failed to stop at a construction zone and ran into a car waiting there. The pickup then veered off and hit Long.
Edwards was not hurt, but the driver of the other car was taken to the Williamsburg County Regional Hospital. Wyant says the case is still under investigation, but that charges are pending.
Long was an employee of Jim Young Construction. A state Department of Transportation spokesman said Long was part of a crew doing utility work for a telephone company at the time.
