Authorities have identified a man who died after he was struck by a train in Spartanburg County Wednesday night.
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 36-year-old David Missita of Pacolet. Investigators say the incident happened at a railroad crossing along state Highway 295 between Spartanburg and Pacolet around 10 p.m. Wednesday.
A spokesman for Norfolk Southern Railroad said Missita apparently stepped off the track and then stepped back on right as the train approached. The train was headed for Columbia at the time, the spokesman said.
The state Highway Patrol, Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, and Norfolk Southern are still investigating the incident.
