Amazon.com is hiring thousands of seasonal workers for its two distribution centers in South Carolina. The company announced Tuesday the jobs are part of the online retailer’s plans to hire least 70,000 temporary workers nationwide during the holiday season. That’s 40 percent more seasonal workers than the company hired last year. Amazon officials say more than 1,000 people will be hired for its Spartanburg County location and thousands more will be hired for the center located in Lexington County. The seasonal employees will work full-time hours earning up to $11.50 an hour. They will be eligible for health care benefits.
A company spokesman says some of the jobs could lead to permanent employment.
