Investigators say a northeast Columbia strip mall fire that did more than $1 million in damage and affected 10 businesses was not an accident.
Fire officials said Monday they believe that the fire at the Spring Valley Commons shopping center fire which damaged 10 different businesses was intentionally set. The Richland County Fire Marshal’s office said the blaze started shortly after midnight in a self-storage business located inside the shopping center in the city’s suburbs. More than 60 firefighters responded to the alarm.
No one was injured in the blaze.
Investigators say they don’t have a suspect at this time, but they are trying to determine who may have set the fire. The arson case has been turned over to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.
