A Myrtle Beach man who won a smaller prize in this week’s $648 million Mega Millions lottery drawing told South Carolina Education Lottery officials that his wife fainted when she learned about the win.
While most of the public’s attention was focused on the grand prize, a player can still win $1 million if they match all of the numbers except for the final “MegaBall.”
A release from the South Carolina Education Lottery states the man, who wished to remain anonymous, bought the winning ticket at a North Myrtle Beach BI-LO. He told lottery officials that he was concerned how his wife would take the news that he had won $1 million. He said she did not believe him, so he handed her the ticket to compare the numbers.
“She fainted,” he said, according to the release.
If the mega-plier had been correct they could have shared in the big jackpot. Still they both said they feel “blessed and so fortunate” to have won.
