A husband, wife and their two children are dead following what investigators have said appears to be a murder-suicide in Irmo Wednesday, according to Richland County Sheriff’s Office.
Thursday, the Richland County Coroner released the identities of the dead: Sheddrick Byron Miller, 38; Kia Von Miller, 28; Kyler Devane Miller, 3; and Syrai Raquel Miller, 1.
The family all died from gunshot wounds to the head. According to Coroner Gary Watts, “it appears (Sheddrick Miller) shot his family members and then turned the gun on himself making this a murder-suicide. The exact time and date of death along with circumstances surrounding the deaths is still under investigation by the Coroners Office and Sheriffs Department.”
On Wednesday, Sgt. Curtis Wilson said his office is “looking into” the possibility of a murder suicide and that “preliminary” investigation appears to point in the direction of murder-suicide in a telephone interview with South Carolina Radio Network.
The incident occurred at a home on Forest Walk Court, off of Broad River Road.
According to sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Curtis Wilson, deputies responded to the location at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and discovered the gunshot victims.
The State was the first to report that the incident was a murder-suicide.
The incident follows months after 27-year-old Bryan Sweatt of Greenwood gunned down five family members before turning the gun on himself in late October. Sweatt was involved in a custody dispute with his live-in girlfriend 26-year-old Chandra Marie Fields. Fields’ body was found in the home, along with her parents 51-year-old Richard Allen Fields and 49-year-old Melissa Maroney Fields. Chandra’s nephews 11-year-old Tariq Kenyon Robinson and 9-year-old William Asa Robinson were also found dead. The Greenwood County sheriff said four other children were able to escape the killings by fleeing to a neighbor’s home.
Earlier this week, an attempted murder-suicide involving a boyfriend and girlfriend in Fairfield County left the shooter dead, but the girlfriend with minor injuries.
