Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz’s campaign is buying small amounts of television advertising time for Easter Sunday in several early voting states, including South Carolina, according to a report from The Associated Press.
The Texas senator is campaigning in South Carolina Friday and Saturday. Cruz plans to speak at a York County GOP event in Rock Hill Friday, then at events in Spartanburg and Greenville later that afternoon. On Saturday, Cruz is slated to stop in Columbia and Aiken. It is his second visit to the First-in-the South primary state this current cycle.
A Democrat who tracks television spending said Thursday that Cruz’s campaign has reserved ad time aimed at reaching voters in Iowa, Nevada and South Carolina. The Associated Press said the Democrat requested anonymity to disclose proprietary advertising data that this person wasn’t allowed to share on the record.
Cruz became the first major candidate to officially join the presidential race last week with a speech at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virgnia.
He has signaled that outreach to Christians will be a priority for his campaign.
