South Carolina Senator, Lindsey Graham said that it is time for the United States and the world to go on the offensive against Islamic State group.
“I hope the French will invoke Article 5. They should,” Graham told CNN’s Jake Tapper. “The world should be at war with (IS).”
After Friday’s terror attacks that killed at least 129 people, France could go before NATO and invoke Article 5, which requires members to come to the aid of a fellow NATO country should it come under attack. Article 5 has only ever been invoked once in the history of NATO, after the Sept. 11, 2001.
Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Graham said stopping the Syrian-based terrorist organization will require “boots on the ground” in Syria and a surge of troops in Iraq.
Over the weekend France did strike ISIS targets in Syria. The French Defense Ministry said a raid destroyed two Islamic State targets in Raqqa, its self-proclaimed capital.
