The South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center hosts monthly “Lawyers4Vets” clinics.
Sue Berkowitz of the organization told South Carolina Radio Network that the clinics help veterans with legal issues they may have. “For veterans a lot of it has to do with child support assistance, or consumer problems. So we are trying to resolve those issues so they can get a better start in life,” Berkowitz said.
She said that there nearly 30,000 veterans who live below the poverty line in South Carolina. “Recognizing that there was a lot of need among low income veterans,” said Berkowitz.
She said her organization just hosts the clinics and attorneys provide assistance to veterans pro bono.
The monthly clinics are held at the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.
