At an event Friday in Columbia held by the Conservative Leadership Project, Republican presidential candidate, Texas Senator, Ted Cruz, said that if he is elected president he will end sanctuary cities for illegal immigrants. “Talk is cheap on that, but there is a real easy way to do it. There are 360 jurisdictions in this country that have declared themselves sanctuary jurisdictions. Every one of them is going to find their federal taxpayer money cut off if I am elected president,” Cruz said. A sanctuary city is a term that is applied by some, to cities that have policies designed to not prosecute undocumented persons.
He said the problem of illegal immigration can be ended, but congress simply does not want to do anything about it. “What is missing is the political will. The Democrats and far too many Republicans don’t want to get it done. I tell you this, I will give you my word, if I am elected president we will secure the border, we will keep this country safe and we will end illegal immigration,” said Cruz
Also at the event Cruz blasted President Obama for issuing too many executives orders. “And everything done with executive action can be undone with executive action and I intend to do exactly that if I’m elected president,” Cruz said.
The forum held at the University of South Carolina Alumni Center, was moderated by South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson.
