South Carolina’s employment agency launched a new version of its website this week amid worries that jobseekers and others had trouble navigating the previous version.
The redesign of the state Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) site began last September and included the use of focus groups and internal interviews to determine what users wanted to see changed. According to DEW spokesman Bob Bouyea, the website had noct been changed in several years and needed a refreshed design.
“The organization of the website itself was a little clunky, so we were needing to fix that,” Bouyea said. “Most of the complaints we heard about our site was ‘We can’t find anything,’ so that’s why the organization and the navigation were priority one for us as we started to redevelop this site.”
The new site not only features a more streamlined look that SCDEW officials hope improve its readability, but also includes new homepage icons and tabs that better align subject matter.
“The navigation is really the key to the change,” Bouyea said. “It’s a little bit easier navigation to help people get to the information that they’re looking for.”
DEW is the state agency responsible for overseeing unemployment benefits and many jobseeking or training progreams.
