Vice President Joe Biden will return to South Carolina next week for a pair of “Get Out the Vote” events.
Biden will appear at events in Rock Hill and Sumter on November 1. Both cities are near South Carolina’s Fifth Congressional District, which Biden’s former staffer, Democratic candidate Fran Person, is hoping to win. Person is a former University of South Carolina football player who served as a key staffer in the Vice President’s office for six years.
Person is challenging Republican U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney, who has represented South Carolina’s Fifth District since 2010. Biden appeared with Person at a fundraiser in Fort Mill last month, but that event was closed to the public.
“South Carolina Democrats are so excited that Vice President Biden has chosen to visit our state in this important stretch of this campaign to highlight the importance of our elections this fall,” state party chairman Jaime Harrison said in a statement.
US Rep. Jim Clyburn will also stump with Biden. Clyburn’s Sixth Congressional District includes parts of Sumter.
State Democratic Party officials said details about specific locations and times will be announced later this week.
