Gov. Nikki Haley said this week she is still going to vote for Donald Trump based on his policies, although she disapproves of his recent controversial comments.
“When I look at all of those, I come back to say that the best person based on the policies and dealing with things like Obamacare still is Donald Trump,” Haley told reporters during a press conference Wednesday for an unrelated reason.
Haley said she has been clear on how she has viewed this campaign. “This election has really turned my stomach upside down. It has been embarrassing for both parties.”
“As governor of this state, knowing what our state’s needs are and knowing the processes that are going to take place, there’s a few things that worry me,” Haley said.
Haley’s support for Trump has been very limited. She supported Florida U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio when the Republican primary season started. Then she backed Texas U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz after Rubio dropped out. Other than saying she is voting for Trump for winning the GOP primary, she has never endorsed him outright.
Haley made the comments Wednesday at a press conference in Columbia on the progress of the cleanup and recovery after Hurricane Matthew.
