A former correctional officer has been sentenced to six months in prison after prosecutors said he admitted providing marijuana to an inmate at a federal prison in South Carolina in exchange for money.
39-year-old Anthony Creech will also be required to serve six months of home confinement and a year of supervised release after his term expires. The Varnville native had worked as an officer at the Federal Corrections Institution Estill. a medium-security prison in Hampton County.
Prosecutors said Creech delivered one ounce of marijuana to an inmate at FCI Estill in January 2015. When confronted by authorities, Creech admitted to smuggling in marijuana and other contraband to inmates in exchange for money. He previously pleaded guilty in March to providing marijuana.
U.S. District Court Judge Richard Gergel handed down the sentence in a Charleston courtroom on Wednesday.
