The FBI is teaming up with the Myrtle Beach Police Department and other local agencies to put to together a task force to stop potential threats before any materialize.
The agency reasons that, with tourists pouring into the Grand Strand region each year, the reality of potential threats become more difficult to find. According to WMBF-TV, officials said it’s just one of the reasons the task force will consist of several local agencies, in addition to the FBI and the Myrtle Beach Police Department.
Authorities said possible terror scenarios and organizations are being reviewed and will be kept confidential to protect the investigation, but they said that there is currently no cause for concern.
The FBI said they plan to leave no stone unturned, but also stated that there is no specific group being targeted, and that many recent attacks in the U.S. and around the world have been carried out by individuals without help, known as a “lone wolf.”
Once fully assembled and charged, they say the taskforce will be proactive, since recent world events show the potential that something could happen in South Carolina.
