In a new song, rapper Eminem makes reference to a South Carolina woman who survived being held against her will by serial killer Todd Kohlhepp.
In the song, “The Ringer,” Eminem says, “I’m off the chain like Kala Brown.” Brown endured being shackled in a shed on Kohlhepp’s property near Woodruff after the Spartanburg County man murdered her boyfriend and raped her repeatedly.
According to WYFF-TV, Brown’s representative said the Anderson woman does not want to take offense or feel as if he is attacking her personally, given that she understands Eminem’s style of rap music.
““It was a clever line that rhymed and we’d like to leave it at that,” the statement said.
Brown was found chained in the shed in November 2016, while authorities were searching Kohlhepp’s property in Woodruff. While South Carolina Radio Network normally does not identify crime victims, Brown has had several public interviews to talk about her ordeal.
Kohlhepp is serving seven life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole. Brown successfully sued Kohlhepp after his conviction and his estate has been ordered to pay more than $6 million.
