The volunteer fire chief for Indian Land is on administrative leave after he was arrested in a prostitution sting.
WSOC-TV first reported 52-year-old Thomas Pickard’s arrest Friday morning. York County deputies said Pickard was charged with first-offense prostitution after the raid at a motel near Carowinds amusement park. A multi-jurisdiction unit of state agents and York County investigators arrested him and six others lured to the motel via postings on websites the unit said cater to illegal sex trafficking.
Lancaster County officials placed Pickard, who also works as a lieutenant with Lancaster County Fire and Rescue, on unpaid leave during the investigation.
The Rock Hill Herald reports Pickard’s wife called Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office deputies when he husband did not return home after work Thursday. Deputies spent several hours searching for the fire chief until they found him in the York County jail.
